Yesterday, the official line up for the 13th Cape Town International Jazz festival was announced at a press conference in Johannesburg. Over the upcoming two days, the jazz fest will also embrace other music genres outside jazz such as hip-hop, soul, afro-funk, electro swing and afro-soul from international and local performers. Attendees will have an opportunity to see Jean Grae (USA), Lindiwe Suttle, Zahara, Zamajobe, electro swing band Goodluck, Atmosphere, Soulive (USA), Zakes Bantwini,HHP, ILL Literate Skills, Thandiswa Mazwai and Zolani Mahola ( Freshlyground) and afro soul artist,Unathi Nkayi. We managed to capture the excitement of the sassy Unathi, who will be performing for the first time this year,she exclaimed, “It’s a huge honour for me to be one of the chosen performers. I’m excited but, nervous because this audience knows what they want and they pay for what they want.”
Afro soul & Kwaito artist Thandiswa Mazwai and Zolani Mahola will be joining respected jazz legends Hugh Masekela and Vusi Mahlasela on stage for the special project MAMA AFRICA- A tribute to the great Miriam Makeba. This will be the first time that the project hits South African shores after it had debuted at the Rio Loco Festival in France in 2010. The legendary trumpeter, Bra Hugh, who had also graced the press con, is the musical director of the special tribute.

The Cape Town Jazz International Jazz Festival will take place on the 30th and the 31st of March 2012.
