Things are heating up on the Idols Season 8 stage as we have broken through the Top 10 and the competition gets tougher with each show.

Last night it was a sad farewell bid to Munsieville’s 26-year-old star, Obakeng. ‘OBK’ had become a quick favourite with viewers and his co-contestants but, with over 200 000 more votes cast for this season’s Top 10 competition than the last, even the favourites are unsafe. Nobody has a guaranteed pass and the Top 9 hopefuls are going to have to work even harder to earn their votes this week.

And as the Top 9 take to the mic for Episode 13, here are the numbers they will be performing:

Chloe sings Paramor – Misery Business
Dominic sings Taio Cruz - Dynamite
Nosipho sings Bruno Mars – Grenade
Melissa sings Joe Goddard – Gabriel
Monde sings Daughtry – Crawling Back to You
Khaya sings David G ft Usher – Without You
Simphiwe sings Ne-Yo – Beautiful Monster
Shekie sings Lady Gaga – Marry the Night
Tshidi sings Evanescence – My Immortal

With the First Lady of Flash Republic, Tamara Dey, serving as mentor for this week, there is bound to be a whole lot of soul headed your way in the Top 9 Spectacular – not the least of which will be the exciting appearance of American singer-songwriter and actor, John Legend! The pressure is seriously on as our Idols share the stage with Legend, who lives up to his name with 9 Grammy Awards and the Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame under his belt. Legend appears on Idols SA ahead of his own concert, in which he will be supported by Idols‘ very own ‘good cop’ judge and beautiful lady, Unathi.

If you’d like to attend the recording of the Top 9 Spectacular at the Mosaïek Teatro in Fairlands, Johannesburg, on Friday (10 August), it will start earlier at 16:00 and not 20:00 as usual. Tickets available from Computicket.

The Top 9 Spectacular will be broadcast on M-Net, M-Net HD and Mzansi Magic at 17:30 on Sunday, 12 August.
