Ambwene Allen Yessayah, well-known by his stage name AY, is a Tanzanian Bongo flava musician. He began his career with the group S.O.G. in 1996 and then decided to go solo in 2002. AY is among the first Bongo flava artists to commercialise Hip Hop. He was also a member of the group East Coast Army. In 2007 he won Best Hip Hop Single (“Usijaribu”) at the Tanzania Music Awards and Best Video from Tanzania (“Usijaribu”) at the Kisima Music Awards. In 2008 he won Collaboration of the Year (“Habari Ndio Hiyo” featuring with Mwanafalsafa) at the Tanzania Music Awards and Best Tanzanian Male Artist at the Pearl of Africa Music Award. Ay has just returned from the US, where he shot a music video with Lil Romeo as well as completing some work with T-Pain.
