Kwaito duets haven't sounded this good since back in your Mshoza and Mzambiya vocal blends, Lebo Mathosa and Mandoza riffs on township swag and raps, and Zola with Unathi on Sana Lwami. Ah, the good ol' days!

Until recently, the idea of Kwaito being dead remained as contested as the commercial viability of a genre that went from being the soundtrack of the township youth experience to being something of the past. The likes of Kwesta, Cassper Nyovest and amongst others, Kid X, have played a big role in challenging these beliefs, in particular as they all dished hit Kwaito records in 2018's kwaito wave.

A year before then, Darkie Fiction had already caught the bug. With their genesis in the lush Mother City, the Kwaito duo left Cape Town to hustle their way in Joburg, where dreams ultimately lead the aspirant.

Darkie Fiction consists of Katt Daddy and songstress Yoza Mnyanda who, drawing their inspiration from kwaito, afro-funk, neo-soul and Hip Hop, came together to establish their refreshing duo. Their rich sounds aims 'to create a sound that pays homage to authentic South African music of the past and bring those styles into the new millennium.'
